this has been an interesting ,and educational thread . I have learned alot about monitors in the time i have spent reading this. thanks for all the input guys its nice to know that OCN has such great members.

on the thought of people poking monitors ,my nephew has a habit of poking my monitor as well as throwing stuff at it . i was seriously thinking about building a plexi glass cage around it. like dont people realise what it takes to keep monitors looking presentable? what if Meagan Fox comes over ? she would think i was trashy and leave all because my monitor was scratched or dirty.see thats why i love dogs they dont do stupid stuff like throwing 10" tall iron man figurines at my computer.

And, I'm curious as to why most people who have 3 30" monitors go for portrait mode? Isn't the point of getting 3 30" monitors lateral screen real estate? I would think it would stress your neck muscles looking up so high for a prolonged period of time.. and that too everyday... that can affect the eyes in the long run..

Why did you choose to go portrait instead of 3 landscape?

And to the OP, I have the Dell U3011 and it is an absolutely fantastic monitor.

The colors are fabulous and build quality is really topnotch.

If you can get such a great deal (~$800) for the Dell U3011, it's a no brainer. I could have easily bought the HP ZR30W...but chose the Dell since it's the newest 30" panel out there..

input shminput.. when you're blasting fools in BC2 @ 2560x1600 with 4xAA and HBAO on.. the smile on your face is worth it.. plus, knowing you saved ~$600 on the price of the monitor that others would have paid at least $400 more is all the more reason to smile..

I say go for the Dell U3011 and don't look back.. it's the best 30" monitor out there.. because I have it..

I seem to remember a couple members on here commenting that the distance you have to turn your head to go from one corner to the other when all 3 are horizontal is too much. This would make sense, 3-30" in horizontal spans 82", which is nearly 7 feet.

This. Although that just makes it even more amazing for Eyefinity. It sucks for desktop work though, it gets annoying. I had two at one point, and while it was cool it didn't do much for me that a 20" secondary didnt do.

Not sure, as I got it from my in-laws house. It is literally like one of those old school leg folding tables but rectangle and fits perfectly under my glass desk

I sit roughly 3 feet back and from left to right, it is in my peripheral vision and I don't have to turn my neck left or right.

I don't care for landscape as someone already pointed out, I can't imagine having to turn my neck almost 90 degrees to see from one of side of my desktop to the other.

Also I love having that extra vertical real estate

I believe he meant the large pad you have on top of the folding table, between the table top and your keyboard/mouse

ah, the mouse pad is just a steelseries pad I got from Microcenter for 9.99, approximately 18"x18"

and the G19 is on a keyboard "tray" w/ a built in wrist pad I got from my old job's junk pile =D
