Overclocking HTC Wildfire

Hey Guys,

Being a PC overclocker I felt like a fish out of water when it comes to overclocking a phone wink.gif

I recently got a HTC Wildfire and looked around on XDA Deveoplers and found out how to root it and flashed my own ROM, Kenral etc.

So I downloaded SetCPU and started OC'ing. Being a PC overclocker I followed the logic of set speed and run stability test.

So I slowly started upping the max speed and then stress testing for 20 min odd. I just kept on upping the speed until I got to the limit of SetCPU (768Mhz). Where to from now?

I have not changed the minimum speed because I have read that it can make your phone rather unresponsive.

Is it possible to go above 768Mhz or will I damage the phone or have to up voltage?

I ran linpak and at 768Mhz I got just under 3 MFLOPS. Is that good or bad or what?

Thanks in advance guys smile.gif

Honestly, I wouldnt go any further, those phone cpus run quite hot already as it is. Well, the HTC Magic does, Planning to get probably an Xperia X10 which is stock clocked at 1ghz. I doubt the desire can even reach that. But good OC. Just check if your battery life is affected.

Any higher will probably destroy your Phone.

Change the kernel to one with a higher upper limit (I'd recommend one if I had a wildfire, I have a desire though so I'm no use, you'll have to find it yourself) and keep on pushing it smile.gif

Keep playing around with different Kernels if you want to keep OC'ing. Look around on XDA for what others are using and how well their OC's are holding up. They're usually pretty quick to respond when trying new things over there so you should get a decent idea when downloading a Kernel if it's stable or not and what type of results you can expect from it.

If you're worried about temp you can set a profile in SetCPU to downscale the CPU if it reaches a certain temp.

Hey Guys,

@ gerickjohn: The hottest my phone has battery has ever got is 36.5C. Is this hot for a phone? Also it seems weird but my battery seems better than before?

@ jackeyjoe: In SetCPU there is a setting that lets you add your own frequencies. Not sure how to.

Also is 3 MegaFLOPS good or bad?

What ROMS give best performance?

What Scaling is the best in SetCPU

Thanks Guys

1. your temps are fine, if you get into the 40's you may get some issues (my phone shuts off at 45c)
2. Is that the profiles? Its still hard locked by the kernel, getting a kernel with higher limits is a must. I dunno where to find them but if you've done all of the stuff in your first post you should be fine.
3. No idea but if it can do whatever you want it to do its good enough, I'm not one for synthetic benchmarks.
4. Most likely cyanogenmod 7, it is the most barebones rom you can get for some phones (unless a dev went one step further and removed stuff from it).
4. Depends, I find interactive is the best but it depends on the kernel.

Thank you so much for answering my Q's smile.gif

Were can I find the CM7 ROM? I am using this ROM ATM with this kernel.

Also in the thread for the ROM im using there is a screen shot of a stock link pack of 2.5mflops and I get 2.1 at stock?

What will be the noticeable differences between CM7 and the one im using?

Thanks again

This is where you get CM7, Don't be scared by the RC, its probably more stable than most roms released by HTC thumb.gif

Honestly I think its fine, if its fast enough for what you use it for thats all you need to worry about.

Maybe, I find CM7 a lot smoother than most other roms (especially sense roms) but all you can do is give it a go.

Okay thanks so much.

SO I just flash it like any other ROM? Also what about OC'ing kernel?

Also you linked me to the ROM im currently using?

Thanks
