Mixing Ram Question

Thread Starter
Alright quick noobie question. On my current budget build, I have a total of 3gb ram, a stick of 2GB OCZ Gold DDR3-1333 (http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0335193) and a stick of 1GB Crucial DDR3-1333 (http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0307432)

Is this bad to mix ram? The voltages are slightly different, OCZ has 1.65 Volts and the Crucial has 1.5 Volts.

I was thinking about just selling the Crucial and picking up another 2GB OCZ Gold since they're only like 20 bucks at my local Micro Center.

I'd say do that.

Yea you're better off running two of the OCZ Gold. I don't think those two different sticks will play nicely together.

I'm going to have to disagree with you about that. I've used OCZ Gold RAM for years now and never had a problem. I've had good luck overclocking them too.

Maybe it is different with DDR3, but all of the OCZ Gold DDR2 I've had have been exceptional.

Get new RAM.
Don't use that OCZ RAM whatsoever, and do not buy a new kit of it. No one ever should be using a generic kit requiring more than 1.5V. Even then, mixing kits with different voltages at rated specs is usually very bad.
OCZ Gold's DDR2 is pretty good but DDR3 and on their 1333Mhz kit it is just pisspoor.

Alright I'll just sell both sticks on craigslist then. Don't got no money to buy those other memory kits at the moment.

2x2GB, dual channel is a big benefit over single channel for the same price. It doubles your bandwidth and makes a difference in quite about everything.

This memory would be much better for a lower price after promo code however. Never get a 1333 CL8 kit, it's a generic spec and often at ripoff prices trying to be marketed as performance memory.
