Help me spend my money right

yikes! I just posted this in intel by accident

hey everybody! I just came up with $200 and will probably add another $100 to upgrade my computer. so what should I do with $300? I was hopeing to get a phenom 2 x4 965 black edition but some have said wait and upgrade the motherboard, ram and power supply first. what's the best I can do with $300 and what I already have? would love to hear what everybody's ideas are. thanx to all

Do you play any games? In that case, a better GPU, otherwise might not be needed really.

if your near a microcenter you can score a CPU with a free mobo for around 100, which leaves you room for ram and a psu? or maybe a decent graphics card?

PSU, then Video card. XFX Has a nice $68 modular, 650w, and bronze PSU right now on Newegg. That's after rebate tho.

Then I would invest into a CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ for like $30, along with MASSCOOL Shin-Etsu thermal paste, and use the rest for a GPU!

No need to upgrade that CPU if its already a decent quad core, and that mobo is fine. Upgrade where you'll see a performance increase.

If you feel you are satisfied with how the games are running there's no need for a better GPU. I'm a pretty decent gamer, I play almost everyday. I do however not play GPU-hungry games, I do play Starcraft 2 and Heroes of Newerth and so on. My GTX 460 does it perfectly (max settings in both games without any FPS drops at all) and its a really cheap card.

Look it up or any simlair card if you're not satisfied how the one you use now performs.

for me the graphics card I have seems to work fine. especially on warcraft 3 it has a very beautiful picture. all of my games do actually. so maybe I should start with the power supply and a good cooler and go from there?

Just get a new PSU for now and then save up some money and get a new ram/cpu/mobo combo.

Well the only thing I see that should/could be upgraded is your power supply and possibly a new hard drive (SSD preferable). Your CPU is all good and 8GB of RAM is more than enough for a normal user. I do however not know what you use your computer mainly for .

Otherwise if everything is floating and youre not experiencing any problems I'd save that money and get brand new PC later on. Maybe when Bulldozer arrives.
