Have a question on win 7

Thread Starter
This is the deal I loaded win 7 it runs great and fine. My mb dead. I bought a new one. Put it back together and turned it on win 7 came right up and just said updating all drivers. it did it with no problems. So I figured I do not have to install wins again well this is what I saw all my hds document folder r locked and I cant ulock them. And I saw that it dose not say c:\\users\\mike\\documents, it says c:\\documents and settings. I loaded word perfect last night too. And it loaded fine. But It would not let me get old files from my old hd or the back up one I have in my room because there in c:\\users\\mike\\documents and there locked now. It seems once the rig sees that folder name it locks it? So I just did a save as in the program and this window came up I have ever seen before that said you need to add a password to this document to protected it. thats all I could do, there was know way to get around it so I gave it one and said ok then it said cant save to document location on this pc. sounds like something all f.. up to me?

Has anybody seen this before? Should I have loaded win 7 again?
Should I just load win again?

thanks

It's recommended to do a clean install of Windows whenever you upgrade a crucial part of your computer, such as the motherboard. I myself have replaced a motherboard without any problems, but I reinstalled Windows just to be safe, I recommend you do the same.

Ive only ever found this to be true when going from Intel to AMD (or reversed) or making a massive change in the chipset. Something like an AMD 770 to an 890FX and even between those chipsets its not really NEEDED.
The reason its "Recommended" is because most of the time its someone with an older system updating to a brand new Hardware kit. Going from a C2D to Sandybridge for instance. Its not needed 99% of the time if you are just swapping out a Motherboard or CPU. Reinstalling windows as often as we switch parts out is more trouble than its worth.
^Thats from thew part of me that works in IT.

However reinstalling Windows does give a sense of "Its a brand new computer" to an rig that is the same except for the Motherboard or CPU. It also ensures you have no issues because it completley removes the possibility of having them.
^Thats the part of me that uses computers personally.
