Is that sata 3 by the way, and will I have to return my sandy bridge mobo if I use sata 3?

I just don't feel like returning my mobo and waiting 2 weeks for it. Plus I have rma'ed once (jan 25)

Uh...no? Your motherboard comes with two SATA 3 ports (the white ones) you shouldnt face a problem. And yes that is a SATA 3 drive.

That drive is SATA3 (6Gb/s). Why would you have to return it? The SB mobos didn't have any issues with SATA3, it was only with SATA2.

no, what I'm saying is that I want to buy a sata 3 hdd and use that instead of current sata 2 hdd (in fear that it might stop working due to the chipset issue) I would rather buy a sata3 hdd then wait 2 weeks for mobo to be replaced.

Sata 3 ports are backward compatible... Just plug in your sata 2 hdd into a sata 3 port and you'll be fine.

Really? wow didn't know this... I see no reason for returning now at all.
Thanks.

Yup sata 3 ports aren't affected, so it becomes an issue when you need more than 2 sata ports.

Well I only have 1 hdd and 1 dvd drive.... If i need more hdd space I'll buy a cheap sata2 usb external enclosure(that would work wouldn't it?) I only have 500 gb now, but I think that's enough for me. If I need more as I said I'll just get a new sata 3 hdd and an external enclosure to use my current hdd...

Or you could just put any internal drive in. SATA3 will use a SATA2 drive. Just like a SATA2 port will use a SATA3 drive just fine. They're completely backwards compatible, just like USB is.

You should be able to manage your space if you have any sort of external hdd, if you wanted more internal sata ports, you could check out something like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-006-_-Product

I dont even use optical drives anymore so 2 sata slots is good for a boot SSD and a data HDD.
