Hi Martin,

Thanks for all your excellent research, it's really helped a great deal in helping me to build my rather over the top system.

I have a couple of scenarios I would like your advice on regarding some upgrades Im planning. I've run your excellent excel pump/rad optimiser with approximations of my existing system and my potential new scenario.

Existing 3 x GTX 360 rads 2 D5 pumps in single loop

Scenario 1
Add 4th GTX 360 and keep single loop

Scenario 2
Add 4th GTX 360 and create a triple 360 loop for CPU and 1 360 with another 2 D5s for the rest.

I have the following water cooled components with a full buildlog over here if you need further info>>
http://www.overclock.net/water-cooli...-complete.html

i7 950 @ 4.6Ghz 1.55v @ 200x23 with Swiftech Apogee XT waterblock ~335W
3 x 2GB (6GB) g.skill ddr3 2000 @ 1.66v 1680Mhz 8-8-8-20 1T with 3 x Koolance RAM-35 Waterblocks with sliding connectors ~60W
1 x 5970 @ 1000/1300 1.3v EK waterblock (2 GPU) ~330W
2 x 5870 @ 1000/1300 1.3v EK waterblocks (1GPU per card) ~500W
+
1 x 8800Ultra nvidia dedicated for physx (air cooled)
Total 5 GPUs yeah total overkill....

1 x Gigabyte X58A-UD9 with 1 x EK-FB KIT GA X58A (UD9) Full Board NB/SB waterblock ~100W

3 x Blackice GTX 360 rads (push-pull fans with rad air boxes front and back)
24 x coolermaster 2000rpm 90CFM 120mm silent fans (R4-L2R-20CK-GP)
3 x Scythe Kaze Server 4 ch automatic fan controllers
2 x D5 12V Speed Variable speed water pumps in series
1 x EK-Bay Spin Reservoir Acetal

Max RPM I get from the fans is about 1850RPM but I generally have them set for 1000RPM and they will ramp up slightly to 1200rpm with temperature rise

With an ambient 25c my water idles at 27c with fans on max water stablises as 31c under full OCCT power supply test for 30mins.
CPU idles at 42c and maxes at 88c pushing 335W from it @ 1.55v
GPUs idle at 28c and max at 44c pumping about 800W into the loop

A few pictures speak a thousand words.......

Existing Loop

CPU Scenario1
3 x BI GTX 360 dedicated to CPU with 2 x D5 in a new Koolance 452x2 res

GPU MB RAM Scenario1
1 x BI GTX 360 for the rest with another 2 x D5 in another new Koolance 452x2 res

Unfortunately I cant add a fourth GTX360 for the single loop scenario but i imagine it will drop overall temps by another 3c.
Compared to CPU temps dropping by 5c to maybe 7c by dedicating 3 rads and 2xD5s to the CPU.

The concern I have; is the single 360 rad loop with 2 D5s operating in a safe temperature zone to support 800W dissipation given that the GPU's dont currently get past 44c and I would be comfortable having them run up to 55c with water at maybe 40c???????

I like to have a quiet system and the current system is making 50 DBC weighted noise which is the lower limit of my meter with fans at 1200RPM. (noise meter doesnt register anything at the DBA weighting range)
Droping fan speeds to 900RPM where they normally sit drops noise noticeably but I could live with 1200RPM noise comfortably for idle with higher speed when gaming as the game sounds will drown out most of the fan noise when under load.

What are you thoughts about splitting this system into 2 loops vs 1 loop??

What are your thoughts?
Cheers!

1 d5 pump and 2 360 rads will probably do you
add a 3rd rad if you need to but no more than 3

all in a single loop

or 2 loops

1st loop:
d5 pump , 1 360 rad, cpu, smallest video card

2nd loop:
d5 pump other 2 video cards

I would personally run the CPU in it's own loop and give it a 360 rad all to itself and put everything else on the second loop. This would allow you to slightly spoil the CPU with a bit more flow rate and a bit more radiator ratio and separate heat that way. It may not amount to much, but I've always liked having a dedicated CPU loop when you start getting into really complex setups like this.

Go with whichever pump you like, but with a good 360 rad, the CPU could handle some pump heat without much issue.

Either option would work, but that's what I would prefer myself.

Thanks Martin,

Based on your feedback and a little more tinkering in your spreadsheet, I have decided to go back to my original plan of 2 loops with 2x360s per loop.

I will make a couple of variations to my earlier plan I hadnt thought of before, which look like they will improve flow and temps massively.

I will upgrade the Apogee XT CPU block to a EK Supreme HF #4 and use 2 x 450S pumps at 24v for the CPU loop in a new 452x res and use 2 of the GTX 360 rads.

I will buy another 4th GTX360 and a 452x Res for the existing D5s for the other loop to support about 800W cooling.

A new Koolance TMS-200 with daughter board to replace all the fan controllers with a software controller to have finer control of noise/temps.

I should be able to keep my core cooling components for several years now for 2-3 CPU/GPU cycles and just replace blocks as new CPU/MB/GPUs come out.

Thanks so much for all your work and your feedback!
