Revisiting K8T800 Pro (Socket 939) Overclocking - **Questions**

I had some 939 fun with two K8T800 Pro motherboards in 2008-2010... but in all honesty I wasn't too good at overclocking them.

Sure, I was able to get an Abit kt266A to 182 FSB, and like almost everyone I was able to push nForce2 & Barton core combos past 200 mhz FSB, and hell, I had an A64 3000+ 939 on a Gigabyte NF3 Ultra running at 2.5ghz for a while...

But despite a couple darn good PSUs, good coolers, open cases, properly configuring RAM dividers etc., the x2 3800+, Opteron 165 and x2 4800+ chips I had worked with hit a wall around 2.4ghz.

Bleh.

Well, now I have a new project. One of my old motherboards (an A8V non-Deluxe) and an Opteron 175. This time I'll basically stop at nothing to get this system cranked up to 2.7ghz +.

So, I thought it would be smart of me to stop in here and ask around a bit about some of you guys' experiences with this chipset.

I'm going to cool this motherboard as good as possible, I'll put some heat sinks on the mosfets...

But in the BIOS of motherboards with this chipset, are there any tricks that maybe I didn't think of or see when I was playing with these in 2008-2010?

Does this chipset handle extremely high HTT with lowered multipliers better than standard multi + moderate HTT speed?

Is K8T800 Pro really picky about RAM? I'll be getting 4gb; I should get 2x2gb, right? Filling all slots will limit OC potential, no?

Should I disable fast writes & kick AGP down to 4x?

Are there any volt mods I can do with air cooling?

If I think of more k8T800 Pro-related questions I'll put them here.

Thanks!

Nice old school OCing project. Here's what I remember about this chipset.

that's whise though I don't think the 3800 x2 consumes quite as much.

moderate HTT speed, but it also depends on the board

Filling all memory slots will for one limit the max DDR speed @333MHz and would hamper OCing; 2x2GB is the way to go.

no and no; you should activate the PCI/AGP lock though; dunno how this option presents itself in your bios, it's either PCI/AGP lock or simply by setting manually the PCI frequency to 33MHz.
