Just get a new SATA DVD drive. They can be had for around 25 dollars.

Yeah, just get a IDE to SATA converter and you'll be good to go if you can find them for cheap, they're generally expensive though and cost the same as a SATA DVD drive so you're better off just upgrading.

You could get an IDE-to-SATA converter such as this one or a PCI ATA controller such as this.
A friend bought not so long ago a 10$ PCI IDE&SATA card. It was something based on a VIA chip, 2sata ports and one IDE (for two drives). It's probably the cheapest and most elegant way of doing it, I haven't heard of ide-to-sata bridges. Another way would be IDE-to-USB adapters, but you must buy two and find a way to wire them to the internal USB ports.

or not even use one at all.

I eliminated the optical drive all together. I got usb thumb drives and god forbid i need a dvd, a work laptop.

If you "really" need one, they're like 20-25 bucks tops.

guys read the post..... he has only ide parts and the mobo only has sata.

@ op. go onto ebay and look ofr one. or buy a new one. the controler from sata to ide is just way to much money and will cost more than that of a new one..... and they are like chickens teeth as well.

ata controller looks promising but it will make so much clutter. Will have to go with IDE to sata

A converter costs almost as much as a new optical drive ($15 v. $20), and there is no guarantee that it will work right. I'd recommend a new SATA optical drive, or no optical drive at all.

The computer I'm using now does not have an optical drive. If I need to install something from a CD/DVD, I'll use a second computer that does have an optical drive and convert the DVD into an .iso file, put it in a shared network folder, then use PowerISO to mount that file to a virtual DVD drive.
