Honestly, there's no point in putting a dual core in a computer right now unless it's a laptop.
If I was building a machine for my mom, I'd throw in a quad. Why? Well, it's not that much more expensive and she's able to multi-task a lot better. Simply having word, a browser, background tasks, music playing and an email client open was ridiculously smoother when I upgraded her from an E6750 to a Q6600.
This is all anecdotal evidence and my opinion, mind you
