The SSD will offer faster response times, faster load times, faster saves, and faster transfers depending on the device and interface it's transfering to/from.

Any I/O function will be faster and instant since SSD drives have an extremely fast response time.

I am not going to argue that the 2600k would not be a suitable upgrade but considering he's already utilizing a very fast processor he might as well upgrade his dated platter drive.

Curveball: How about a smaller SSD, and more ram? When I added an additional 4gb, my rendering was way smoother.

SSD is the way to go by all accounts. But this even will not help if his media is loading from a source significantly slower than the drive during en-coding.

The ability to utilize 8 threads versus 4 will make a good difference in performance. Of course a 980/990x will work well, they are offering 12 threads...but at a cost.

I have been a computer Enthusiast for 16 years now... If I remember correctly... And let me put it this way... : Nothing has made me really feel a revolutionary product since 2D VS 3DFX voodoo. Going from Quake in 2D to Quake with 3DFX Glide patch and a Voodoo 1 card in 98... Or was it 1997?? Except.. the transition from HDD's to SSD's...

Enthusiasts running on good/great computers without SSD's are really missing the point.

What a weird debate. As I can tell there is something like a 10-15% difference in rendering time? So if he is rendering something that takes 1 minute on the 2500k it will take 51 seconds on the 2600k. If he is rendering something that takes 6 hours on the 2500k it will take 5.1 hours on the 2600k. Which of these is the OP doing and will he really notice that difference (is he sitting there waitin for the render to finish)?

On the flip how heavy is his non-render usage, if he multi-tasks a lot, games (which I'm guessing he does), what have you, there is a significant difference in the feel of your system with an SSD. It's not just "oh windows boots faster." The HD is a significant bottleneck to multiple aspects of computing life.

Now again, if this is just a render *****, with huge or constant renders happening then it's a no brainer, if not, there are many arguments as to why SSD is a wise investment.

EDIT: looks like dark posted some numbers more in the 20% region. Though to be fair the price difference is more like 50% between the two chips.
