Timings depend a lot on the ICs that are in the mem modules, 8-8-8 may not even boot but 8-9-8 may be completely stable.
PSC ICs are the most common lately, they are good for for the cl timing, but tRCD needs to be a clock or 2 looser than the cas. BBSE will usually run with the tRCD 1 clock higher than the cas, hyper are really the only ones that will hold all 3 timings fairly low at the same clocks at higher frequency. Maybe d9s as well, but with higher voltage.

did you increase voltage when you went from 9-9-9 to 8-8-8
My mobo defaults my ram to 1333Mhz 9-9-9-24 @ 1.5v
It's supposed to be 7-8-7-24 1600 mhz @ 1.65
so when I only changed the timings and frequency it didn't boot. set the voltage to 1.66 and it boots

well 2 things guys... I NOTED above... that when i went back into bios it had 7s... and not 8s? and instead of my input of 48 it was 56...? but no i didnt adjust voltage at all LoL its just at 1.6 i believe...?

here are my bios setups.. timing advice and help on RAM overclocking with my bios would really help me as I have gotten the hang of over clocking my i7 on my own..

Usually with intel systems faster is better.I think you should leave stock timings and see if it will run 2,000mhz.Most likely benchmarks would show that 2000 mhz. is faster than tightening your timings.

A great way to test your ram is with maxxMEM benchmarks. You can run it and then compare your results with your tests and members here in the maxxmem test thread.

Now you have to be careful messing with the memory volts,Because Intel CPU's have a tighter tolerance when it comes to the ram. With AMD CPU's you can even take the volts up pretty high to get the CPU,CPU/NB,and Memory stable.

ok so.. increase to 2000mhz and leave at 1.6 volts or go to 1.66 volts on DRAM?
