That's not neutered.

Dunno about the mem clocks.

This.

I wonder why the mem clocks are so lowered? No one's check the mem specs so I wonder if they're lower rated or not?

Id hold off for next get later this year personally. Any games coming out actually going to need 580s sli or a 6990?
If you cannot wait that long at least wait until the 590 is out for mabye a better option and hopefully a price shake up.
I think it would be smarter to go 6990 and invest saving towards a loop.
ATI drivers issues? I have had no more problems with ATI than Nvidia.

The performance/price thing I would definitely go 6990, but I would hold off to see Nvidia's offering before pulling the trigger.

Also I would get a 2500k and not a 2600k if you are just looking at gaming and daily use.

Sorry; but for AMD's highest end, the price/performance must go to HD 6970 CF. They're a bit cheaper, have higher spec'd memory and will overclock higher... Thus performing better and costing less.

IMO, only reason to get 6990 is if you MUST have it all in one card.

To me the 6990 looks like two unlocked 6950 GPU's, factory overclocked to 830MHz (vs stock 800MHz) and overvolted by +0.02V.

Save yourself a few bucks and get 6970CF for better performance, or better yet, save yourself a lot of bucks and get 6950CF for the same if not better performance.

Personally I was in the same situation when I got my new build. As you can see I went with the 5970 because for one thing you really don't need much more then that and for the money I'd save vs two GTX480's I could pocket that and get around 85% of the performance.

Also the whole thing you see about AMD drivers let me just say this 80% of the time its user error. I for one have not had one single problem with drivers since I bought this card. (Which was the day it was released)

Oh I know, but the op did not ask. If you want to get into price/performance I would actually go 570s sli.

Damn...taking a look at the majority of benchmarks..I honestly have to say I am definitely not impressed..especially as far as performance and price is concerned... 2 6970's will definitely do more good than a 6990...I'm thinking the gtx 590 is gonna be great though...

2 GTX 580's outperform 2 6990's crossfired...and that is pretty messed up...well, in some resolutions

2 gtx 580s rape a hd 6990, the only thing better on the 6990 is the vram, it really helps when your running at 2560x1600 for aa. @ Chucklez , i had two hd 5970 in xfire, and they raped but little things were annoying about it, some small details in games were just a tad off, especially the intro videos , even when i owned one it raped. like one 5970 will play anything on max @1080p, i sold my 5970s and bought two gtx 580s and there perfect the out perfrom both the 5970 and 6990, and will out perform the gtx 590, and i have no little bugs like 5970 got, and everything runs super smooth...

But @ OP
i see your only running a 22" which is most likely 1920x1080.. sli 580s, 6990s is way over kill for that , you can get a 6970, sli 460s, 570,etc that will be more then enough for that monitor, why do you want so much horsepower?

After rereading the original post, it seems he hinted towards a possible multi-monitor setup.

I would say,
go with 2x hd6970 crossfire.
2x gtx580 sli will be very expensive,& 2x hd6970 cf will perform better than hd6990 still being cheaper.
