6990 vs 2 580's? - Page 10

You will always pay a price premium for the top card. 580's should never be put into a value benchoff because they were never meant to be a value card. If someone is looking for value they can get three 6950's and unlock them.

The AMD 6990 dual gpu card compares to price/performance to GTX 570 SLI. The GTX 580's are too much for one dual AMD 6990 performance and price.

Thanks to RmpConnect Reviews on YouTube for this benching. BTW he's an ATI owner telling it like it is.

Two GTX 570's = $740 approx = 1 dual AMD 6690 gpu.

Finally! Someone did it! 6990+6970 against 580 SLI, 1000$ against 1000$.

And like I said, it's a real massacre. So to all those Nvidia fanboys bashing me non-stop, put you feet where your mouth is. Same price, 1000$ against 1000$, 2 cards against 2 cards.

Look at those slides here:

http://www.hardware.fr/articles/822-...s-records.html

Look at Crysis 2560X1600 8AA! 59 fps for the 6990+6970 set-up against 32 fps for 580 SLI! LOL! Double the framerate! Unplayable with 1000$ 580 SLI, but 60 fps with 1000$ 6990+6970!

Thank you all. It feels so good to be right.

No. Nvidia fanboys with 580 and 580SLI are taking it personnal. Not me.

6990+6970, 1000$, just like 580 SLI, double the framerate in Crysis at 2560X1600 8AA. I don't make personnal attack. I show results. You are making personnal attacks and telling me to grow-up

Grow-up. Look at the slides. Not at your video of a 700$ card against a 1000$ SLI set-up.

How can people tell the guy to buy 580 SLI for the same price after reading that?

Your sort of right about the money vs performance sort of being unfair. I'll give you that. The original OP however asked that and people chimed in. That's why I showed the AMD 6990 now being compared to slightly less performance than two GTX 570's two post above even though it was sort of off topic.

Now your benchmarks video also shows some substance. Good job. Another solution offered but this thread isn't "What beats the GTX 580 SLI". We're just staying on topic. At least now when you find a thread asking what beats two GTX 580's you can post back with credibility. Let's call a truce and stop this bantering.

P.S. The original poster has a 850 watt psu. He can't run the AMD 6990 and a AMD 6970 so that solution won't work for him. However he can choose between one AMD 6990 or GTX 580 SLI with just enough power. So for his situation I can understand his post question. He's got to decide if paying an extra $250 is worth the extra performance.

In his case he could also buy two GTX 570 SLI and have just a tad more power for the same amount of money. He would get to decide if he wants a dual gpu or two single for his power supply.

Power supply = Corsair AX1200
Ram = Gskill ripjaws 1600 Mhz 8 gig 7-8-7-24
CPU cooler = either a RASA XPS kit or just a Corsair H70 (haven't decided)
Motherboard = Gigabyte UD7 (when the damn thing comes back in stock)

The Motherboard has been holding me up so now the 6990 has released and now i dunno what to do. I'm not a fan boy of either side but I am after the best overall product. example, i've heard ATI handles multi-monitor better than Nvidia and scales better when in crossfire, True? but after seeing the reviews of the 6990 it didn't really wow me with the performance but on the other hand i could just get one of these cards and save 300 dollars. obviously I know two 580's would out perform 1 6990 but by how much? If you know what your doing, are the ATI DRIVERS really that bad to deal with??? I want to build a really good machine that will last quite a while. I will go multimonitor eventually i have 2 need to get my third, but that will have to wait as this rig is very expensive... Opinions please? I'm not an expert on this subject so a little help is needed. thanks
Well Sammickk, I'd like to know which solution you finally ended up going. Always interesting to know the outcome, please post back. I'm sure you've been following your thread. Good luck in what you decided. Either way your going to have sweet cards. Choosing between AMD and Nvidia is really like trying to pick out the reddest apple in a barrel when all of them taste just as good. In your case a red apple over a green apple....but you have a few choices with your 850 watt psu now.
