I can't get my i5-2500k to overclock

Thread Starter
No matter what I try, I can't get my processor to overclock. I've tried following several guides on the internet that involve using the bios, and the Asus Suite II auto tuner. The auto tuner actually got it up to 4.8ghz, but after restarting, it was back to the normal 3.3ghz.

My system:

Core i5-2500k
Asus P8P67 PRO mobo
Coolermaster Hyper 212+ push/pull
Corsair 4gb 1600mhz RAM
Asus GTX 480

I'm pretty new to overclocking so I don't know if I'm missing something important out or what. Any help would be awesome.

On these you overclock by upping the turbo multiplier only I believe.

So it should be easy.
Leave the front side bus speed the same, and in the BIOS adjust the turbo multiplier up.
And the cpu voltage accordingly.

Just tried what you suggested, set everything to default and just increased the multplier.

It hasn't done anything.

Anyone else got any input at all on this problem? I'd like to think it won't OC due to my incompetence and not that I've spent £160 on a broken CPU.

Are you doing this from the BIOS or from a program.

Don't overclock with a program.

And one very obvious thing I just have to say, because you might not be doing it, is when you exit the BIOS are you saving the setting? LOL

turn intel speedstep off. and check with cpu z, make sure you have latest one downloaded.

by the way read this. http://www.overclock.net/intel-general/910467-ultimate-sandy-bridge-oc-guide-p67a.html different mobo but use it as a guideline.

Ah ha, thanks very much, disabling Speedstep appears to have done it. CPU Z is reading 4000mhz core clock.
