Sensor performance based on perfect control and malfunction rates: Mx518>IE3.0
Negative acceleration will occur past 1.55m/s on the 3.0 while the mx518 is good up until around 2m/s

Mouse Prediction/Angle snapping: IE 3.0>Mx518 Mx518 has moderate "correction" while the the 3.0 has next to none. In regards to what is better, I'd have to say I prefer no correction.

Scroll wheel durability: Mx518>IE3.0 The 3.0 uses a plastic encoder which is prone to breaking within a few months of heavy use.

Ergonomics: IE3.0>MX518 Personal preference.

Overall Build Quality: MX518>IE3.0 Not even debatable.

Weight: Mx518 is 106g, IE3.0 is 108g.

Warranty: Both 3 years.

Both mice are good, you just have to pick the one that's right for you.

I would buy both from Fry's (get them to price match w/ Amazon. They will do it.) Test both out and return the one you like less.

I've tried neither but here are my thoughts:

Some say that mouse correction is a disadvantage, but if we all stopped to think about it, correction could be an advantage in just as many situations.

So get the MX518.

MX518 is vastly better. I have both of the mice in question and honestly there is no contest at all between them. MX518 for the win!

Even though I voted for MX518, MS 3.0 is still regarded as a very good mouse among FPS players.

Basically what I am doing. Ordered MX518 from Newegg, and got the Legends edition 3.0 from Best Buy. MX518 isn't here yet though. So far, the 3.0 is okay, but it feels cheap. It is precise and light, which I like, and it fits my hand (I got big ones smile.gif) ...but I feel like durability isn't up to snuff. Wheel and side buttons are awful, but man is it precise.

If you have ever played with a 3.0 you will agree when I say it is as good a mouse as it is a maraca.

Decent mouse, but the buttons feel so cheap...

I would have ordered from a local store. I mean... cause you won't have to pay return shipping.

Cheaper even with return shipping. Best Buy's got the MX518 for 54.99. Microcenter has it at 49.99. With tax in MA it comes out expensive. Newegg had a deal for it at $31.54 without tax, and besides I'm probably going to keep it considering what people are saying. Didn't want to have to buy, return it, and then order again from Newegg.

Still, Microcenter will most likely price match if you ask, so the prices will come out the same. I look like a homeless guy but they were still happy to give me a price match.
