DLC for PS3

Thread Starter
So I have a question. When you purchase DLC does it follow your account? Meaning if you buy a new ps3 and sign in it is in your history tab and you can just redownload it? Or is it stuck on that single system. If this is the case then that sucks for those who buy tons of DLC and their PS3s die. Thats why I have been so leery about buying DLC...because I was never sure.

Anyone know the answer?

Yeah it's linked to your PSN account for up to 5 PS3s. It will be under the download list in the PS Store in the top right corner.

It is a limit on 5 ACTIVE PS3's. You can deactivate a PS3 at any time. So besure to deactivate your old machine before selling it, etc. Just like you have to do for a lot of DRM'd PC games like Battle Field BC 2.

Just be sure to read the item before buying it as it will tell you. There are a very few games out there that are tied to the machine, like WarHawk. But that was a full retail game at one point, all PSN games, and 99 percent of all DLC are tied to the account.

Back when the PS3 was first released Sony actually encouraged game sharing with friends/family. That way, they could get more content into more peoples hands. They said in a statement that the limit was 5 active PS3s. Of course, Sony started discouraging it because of companies complaining of loss of sales/revenue.
