ASUS P8P67 mobo + crossfire = covered PCI slot?

Thread Starter
I'm planning buy the asus P8P67 mobo for my new system. I'd also like to use the auzentech x-meridian 7.1 2g soundcard to plug into my pc. Unfortunately, the soundcard must use the PCI slot instead of PCI-e, and I plan on getting 2 graphics cards in crossfire.

For those who have a similar rig, do you know if the PCI slot is going to get covered if I decided to get, say, 2 big fat HD5970s? If this isn't going to work, I'll need to cancel my order and get the xonar d2x.

No issues, I ran CFX and a pci sc on both my vanilla and pro board.

But why not go with a pro?

There are 3 pci slots on that board. So yes you will cover up 2 of them if you're using 2 dual slot cards, but the 3rd should still work for you.

I guess I could. Why is it better?

PCI-E lanes

Vanilla will be 16x/4x
Pro will be 8x/8x

For the most part you wouldn't notice, but one thing for sure is the second card is not being fully utilized.

I see. So then vanilla would be the best then? I'm going to crossfire a 5790 with some future graphics card.

I am currently thinking of doing the same thing but it looks like for a crossfire setup with 5870s i would have to put the sound card in between the gfx card: 1.) Is tht okay to do tht or will it cause heating issues and 2.) Would it even fit, i know tht technically speaking theres a slot between the two gfx cards free but it just seems as if it would not fit

As I'm reading this I am taking a second look at my system...

I have a P8P67 Deluxe. I have a GTX 580 DirectCU II and it is huge. I could never go CFX or SLI and have a sound card in the middle fit. I thought I would be able to but now I see I can't. I'll just stick to a single powerful GPU. cool.gif
