Dual GPU technology (2 gpus in 1 card) is a cop out in my opinion. It's taking the easy way out and it doesn't advance technology. Instead of making cards more efficient, they paste together 2 old GPUs and call it a new one. Unacceptable.

Agree or disagree?

No, it offers more performance in a smaller footprint. Plus it's always done with current GPU tech. I'd be pretty POed if they used dual 5870's and called it a 6990, or dual 470's and called it a 590. Yet it isn't.

The cards are not shoddy, now the drivers on the other hand... well that's a whole different topic.

They give the performance equivalent of 2 of the highest performing single cards in Crossfire/SLi while only taking up one PCI-e slot. The estimated pricing on the 6990 is also around what 2 6970's would cost you. They are great for people with smaller form factor computers or people who only have/want one PCI-e slot used for graphics.

Seeing how the 6xxx series isn't half as old as the 4xxx series was when it had the 4870X2 GPUs, no.

Some people only have the room/want for a single physical card, therefore, there is a product to match that need in the consumer market.

The cards aren't shoddy (in fact, they're almost always the fastest at the time of release), but in my opinion, the use of that technology is. Instead of improving efficiency, they paste two gpu's together and call it a new one. Not good in my opinion.

Lol, and I can't stop looking at your AVY.

Heat issues, power issues, and driver issues, to name a few. And I think anyone in the market for a dual GPU setup likely has the money for an SLI mobo and a big case.

Makes QUADFIRE and 4WAYSLI alot easier since it only requires 2 slots vs 4.

Also I personally can't call fabbing 2 chips onto 1 PCB shoddy but that's IMO I really have no idea how hard/easy that is.

No it's not slapping you guys in the face. Dual gpu cards vs. SLI are completely different. In SLI, the company releases a supposedly efficient high end card and YOU have the option of buying another and running two or more in SLI. Dual GPU cards are a slap in OUR face, as the company is pretty much saying screw efficiency, we'll just paste 2 gpus together and throw it at them, efficiency be damned!

There's a difference.
