A little micro atx problem - what video?

Thread Starter
I want to build a micro ATX based box, around an NVIDIA card with descent CUDA processing.

I don't need a lot of RAM on the card as it is not going to be used for video processing (headless computer actually).

The case I have supports a full height video card, and full size power supply so those things are a plus. However, it has only a single expansion slot so a video card that uses 2 slots don't work :-(

Ideally passive cooling would be fantastic... Am I dreaming the impossible?

Anyone have a suggestion of motherboard/NVIDIA CUDA combo?

There is a crappy Zotac GT430 thats quite small but its dual slot
Maybe a different GT430 will work :
My 9800gt is single slot but not passive
Its not impossible just very difficult

your best bet would be a GT 430 ( not passive though )

or theirs something like this thing <- like to a Australia website. you will have to find where every you are located (:

or if you can find one, theirs a single slot 450 lol..

which case are you useing? micro atx with 1 pci slot O.o?
ive seen someone cut the side of their case ( to fit their gpu cooler into the side of their shuttle pc lol, could do that? )

Seems like a tough call, I did a bunch more searching after posting that and did not come up with much.

The computer in my sig can handle 2 more dual slot cards. The two 295's I've got now are water cooled so that keeps the noise down.

I don't need the CUDA all the time so I was thinking I might be best off adding 2 more non water cooled 295's and crunch like mad when needed and pull them out when not needed.

Since I can't stuff so much power in the mini atx case I guess jamming in more power in my main computer is the way to go.

which case are you going to use? o.O

micro atx = 4 expansion slots o.O

can pack a hell of a punch even with 1 card. ( dual slot.. or so )

probably best single slot gpu card would be this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814162072

I too am wondering a bit what case only has one expansion slot cutout? could you a bit more clear on why you can only fit a single slot gpu solution?

I've got three cases, two have builds already so I was hoping to put a video card in the 3rd case.

The case is actually a Mini case, not micro. Lian Li PC-Q07. Bottom line is I don't think my plan is going to work out so well.

oh

i thought about doing that, you would have to remove the 5.25bay and hhd cage ( type thing )
and move the motherboard upto the top for it to fit properly...
and a normal dual slot gpu should fit.
a. cut out a 2nd pci slot
b. cut the bracket on the card down to 1 slot
