Help on Overclocking a Dino: P4 Prescott 3.0Ghz

Thread Starter
Yes, before I ask my question, I realize that I am dealing with a 7 year old dino here, however, I have spent hours with this issue and would appreciate assistance.

I am running a HP xw4100 Workstation with the following:

Antec 850Watt TruePower Blue
Duray (ASUS OEM) Socket 478 Intel 875P Chipset Motherboard
4GB Buffalo DDR-400 Memory
Intel Pentium 4 Prescott 3.0Ghz Hyper-threading CPU(Socket 478)
HIS ATi Radeon HD4670 1GB GDDR3 AGP Graphics Card
Via Envy 24HT-S 7.1 Sound
20GB Intel SSD & 500GB Seagate Barracuda SATA Drives
Win7 Ultimate

More specs Here

As the BIOS in this rig is absolute crap (HP 786B3 v1.2) I had to opt for software overclocking. This pointed me towards SetFSB. I experimented with this for hours. sozo.gif Trying every combination possible. Does anyone know the Clock Generator for this machine??? :confused:Right now I'm using a ICS954103EF Generator and somehow succesfully Overclocking the CPU to 3486.86 Mhz. However, I'm using the wrong generator, so it fails a lot.

I'm the middle of an i5 build, but have run out of cash. I need this rig to last another 6 months, and OCing this is a no brainer, as in 6 months, I plan on trashing it anyway.

And yes, I realize it's 2011, and these specs are pathetic, however this rig handles fine in MW2, BlackOps, Crysis, and FarCry 2. So I don't wanna trash it yet. I just want a performance boost.biggrin.gif

If anyone has any information on the Clock Generator on this machine, or if you suggest a better software project for the job, your feedback is very appreciated.smile.gif

Your memory, your temperatures and your voltage may all be limiting your software overclock.

What is your cooler?

Those are fine. I need to find the clock generator
CPU 29 degrees C
Chipset 35 degrees C
VidCard 38 degrees C

Antec spot cool for chipset, antec tricool slot for vidcard and stock for Cpu

From what I've been able to see, only SetFSB has that particular PLL.

Phase-Locked Loop. It generates the frequencies at which the rest of the system runs at.
