as you can see above i got it to a stable 4.0GHz. sat in prime 95 for a couple of hours but i dont know about 4.2GHz because my temps are... ok. but is it realy worth the extra .2GHz, under load i can get upto 15c less at 4.0GHz. but all said and done i think i might just stay at 4.0GHz but what do you guys think? and do u guys think i can drop my CPU voltage a bit to get some better temps or do you think i am good there. and thanks for all the help

This is overclock.net, 4.2 sounds/looks better than 4.0.

But no, I doubt you'll ever notice the difference unless your a benchmark nut.

Worth is relative to whos paying. If you're willing to pay the heat piper with the increase voltage; then it's worth it.

Things get real finicky and hot as you OC above 4.0.

If you don't bench or do any 3d rendering, video encoding, or anything of that sort, you won't notice a difference.

But since this is OCN and its all about e-peen, if your temps are safe, and it is stable at 4.2, then why not?

P.S. Just curious, but can you post a CPU-Z screenshot of your current overclock?

Hmm the two of us have very similar chips. For 4.2, mine needed 1.33 Vcore (in CPU-Z) to be stable.

However, each chip is different, but you can use that as a starting point and work your way up or down. Btw, what are your methods of testing stability?

I'd say start with 1.35 and work from there. Seems to be the going rate from what I can tell.

Well if you are stable at 4.0 with 1.265v I would have to say that you should surely try to go higher..


Thats some nice voltage for a 4.0 OC...
