asus k8n-dre-sata-pb, server

I bought this board brand new. The only reason I bought was because it's an Asus and it was dirt cheap. Now what can I do with it? I really don't understand how a server works, or the purpose of a server in a home. I already have a gaming pc. Can this be turned into a htpc setup? Like I said before I just bought it for the price. Thanks for the suggestions.

You can do anything you want with it, even HTPC; server mobos aren't that different of regular ones, except for the fact they need server processors; some (most) work with regular RAM. You must find at least one sk 940 processor (that is supported by the board) - i suggest (if available) dual socket dual core Opteron HE series processors for socket 940. The HE have lower power consumption, having two of those (4 cores) should be enough for most workloads

Get the latest features and advanced technology with this 10-pack Asus K8N-DRE/SATA EATX Server Motherboard! Based on the NVIDIA nForce 2200 Professional core logic, this Asus K8N-DRE/SATA Server EATX Motherboard supports a high memory capacity of up 16 GB DDR RAM and comes with four SATA/150 ports with support for RAID 0, 1, 0+1! It features the ATI Rage XL integrated video with 8 MB of video memory and offers a superb network performance with its dual Broadcom BCM5721PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet ports! Add hard drives and a floppy drive with two IDE controllers and one floppy controller! Install expansion cards with one PCI Express x16 slot, one 33 MHz/32-bits PCI slot and one Mini PCI slot for BMC card! This Asus K8N-DRE/SATA Server Motherboard supports dual HT AMD Opteron 200 and Opteron Dual-Core Socket 940 processors!

It looks like this board could do two awesome things:
*folding - w/ 2 dual core CPUs and a PCIe x16 slot
*file server/web server - enough CPU power, enough RAM capacity (16GB), awesome networking

The only downside is it needs registered DDR in stead of regular DDR, but that can be sound cheaply on ebay.
