more LED questions...

Thread Starter
Hey all,

Im looking to light up my HAF922 with some more LEDs (currently have 2 200mm Red LED fans)

Ive gone through a few of the threads here and still have a few questions.
My idea is to make a few small clusters of LEDs similar to this:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16811994017

1) If i use 12v LEDs, do i need a resistor?

2) If i use lower voltage LEDs, say 2 or 3v, and use 4 or 5 of them in series, do i need to use a resistor?

Im thinking of buying these:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...#ht_1289wt_901
will they do what i want?

Any help will be much appreciated!

yea i saw those... but i want to try to make something instead.

That would cost 11.99 + 9.99 shipping. i can get those LEDs for 7.75 shipped

you would most likely need to do some circuit board stuff. Then you would have to be able to find the proper way of getting a molex on there. Just have to find the correct way to do it.

youd need one like this:

You will still need to use resistors to ensure the life span of the LEDs. The resistors will limit the current allowed to be used by the LED. Even if it was designed to operate at 12V, it will draw more current than designed for and it will burn out quicker if you don't use a resistor. Single LEDs are almost always between 2-4v, most commonly ~2.9-3.3 for blue LEDs.

why do i need a board? can i not just solder the resistors to the LEDs leads? just trying to keep the cost as low as possible...

couldn't you get electrocuted? Im not sure. Try to put them in an array and with a resistor and hook it up to a molex to see if it would work.

i may be mistaken, but im pretty sure i would need a resistor for each LED
