Hey guys,

So I've got a choice to make

I can pay the premium for the 6990 pair it with my 6970, and also save a PCI slot for my sound card as well as giving the cards room to breathe.

OR

I can pick up 2 used fully unlocked 6950's for $425 effectively saving me $300, but move to on board sound as well as sandwiching the three cards for poor air flow and massive heat.

Well 3x 6970 > than 1x 6990 + 6970 so i would go with the 3x cards, but make sure you have good airflow.

Yeah, the airflow & losing the sound card kind of sucks.

If you have any intention of moving up to h20, I say the 6990. Single block then. Also te cores are the highest binned for low power and heat production. From experience, that turns into better overclocks later on.

Uber switch FTW!

Just add another 6970 if you ask me... Tri crossfire 6970s would be sick. Whats the point in paying so much for a 6990 when you alreayd have 2 6970s?

Well, with 3 cards I would have to sandwhich them and they would run very hot and I would lose my soundcard because of 3 cards.

Well if you got the money, get 2 6990's and xfire em. sell the old cards

Personally i'd run 1 6990 and get a 2nd in the future and abandon the 6970s

Wait a sec, if you have an e760 like it says in your sig rig, you could do a physx card+ tri fire+ a sound card. You put the sound card on the pcie x1 slot at the top, and then use the other 3 pcie x16 slots for the 6970s. Unless, that is, you have a pci sound card. In that case I'd sell the pci sound card, and get a pcie sound card.
