I thought they slim was like the old 360's with a cpu and gpu indepent of each other.

Seems much better.
Now how do you power fans from the 360 power supply?

The Slim actually uses a 4pin PWM connector that is located on the motherboard, as shown below.

All you would need to do is splice a 3pin fan into the first three pins from right to left based on the photo above. The fans attached will, however, run at full speed as the blue wire is what is used to control the speed of the 360's stock fan. But using a nice, quiet 12v fan should pose no issue.

Or using antec tricool fan with its 3 speed switch should work?

Why not just get PWM fans?

I have two on my megahalems and they have lasted a long time now. a year easy.

No problems what so ever, and they are on the lowest setting and inaudible.

If I ever NEED more air pushed through, I up the speed on the little switch.

Can you tell me why YOU think they are terrible?

Thread Starter
Any fan with red and black leads (3-4 pin) will work. I actually have the fans partly modded already. I just need to solder them together. Its going to be a while before I can complete the project. Most likely I will just make a work log on a seperate thread if I decide to finish it.

They do, its very rare. The point was mostly to see if I could do it, and I can. I like to maximize as much performance as I can from any device.

I know but it's still going to have leads for the power. Do you still have the ribbon cable that attaches to the front for touch?

Probably, but I don't feel like finding out which leads are correct and then taking the zero insertion slot and turning them into pins. Yes, I will probably be using that cable for the final build.

The only cases of a RROD (not literally, but the same overheating error deal) I've heard of are the ones that are purposely done, which require turning off/blocking the fans and/or wrapping it up with a towel.

IE: It ain't no problem-o anymore.
