E8400 / HyperX Overclocking help!!

Thread Starter
What's happening, forum?

For a while, I had my e8400 at 3.6ghz with no issues and I wanted to go higher (4ghz). However, my limitation was my 1gb of xms2 ram @ 800mhz.

So, i splurged on some Kingston hyperx t1 4gb (had known they were at 800mhz) and figured I could get them to 1066. Wrong.

I cant run my cpu any higer than 3.3ghz because it. will. CRASH! Urggh! It was hard enough getting my crap mobo to take them as dual channel! And now i cant oc my cpu over 3333 mhz, i cant touch my timings, and i cant touch my memory speed or it will crash (not post, or get to windows and freeze). Cooling is not my concern here. getting it to work is D:

Any ideas?? im really

i clocked my old e8400 with np, the voltage was about 1.4250. and my ram was set to auto. you have to disable intelspeedstep, thermal throttling and so on if you want a stable overclock.. and the spread spectrum somtimes needs to be disabled. but not in my case though..

I can try this again. Scared to go over 1.4 since this is a 24/7 computer. ram is at 800 and i would like to know how to do that....

Have you tried bumping the Ram voltage a notch or two ?

And 4gb ram stresses the NB more then 1gb, so you would probably need to bump the NB volt 1 notch also

Try setting the ram as Kingston describe on their site.

And 1.4 Vcore is somewhat insane for a 3.3-3.6ghz... It should be in the 1.3 area

Maybe you can get some tips in these threads:

Curious how you have your RAM set? Is it unlinked, linked and synced, a particular ratio?

good question as 2 sticks of ram needs less power than 4

your ram should be at stock speeds for now, eg. 800mhz, so make sure its unlinked.
as this is happening since you got new ram. it is either the ram timings, which you should have left at default or the northbridge voltage

not sure what you mean by unlinked. also, ram timings are at 5-6-6-18-1, and fsb:ram is 1:1, according to cpu z. voltage is 1.8, at 800mhz.
