I recently purchased a phenom2 x6 1090T to upgrade from my althlon2 x2 245. Ever since i installed my procesor, i have been having issues with my comp freezing. I believe that it may be the power supply, but i figure, might aswell get a second opinion.

just to clarify system specs.

PSU: Cooler Master 600W
CPU: Phenom2 x6 1090T Black Edition (3.2Ghz)
RAM: 4x1gb OCZ Platinum XTC Low Voltage 12800+ 1600Mhz
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-MA770t-UD3P (flashed to f10 bios to support x6 (yes i realize the x6 was released on the f6 release i believe))
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 5670 1GB
HDD: 1x1TB Seagate barracuda 7200.11, 1x320GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11
DVD: Samsung DVD-ROM (IDE)
CPU Cooler: Arctic Cooler Freezer Pro Rev1
Fans: 2 standard 4" fans (1 front, 1 back, both removing from case), 1X9" fan, powered by external 110V supply, drawing air into case from front.

My question is, before i purchase a new PSU, is it possible that the 600W PSU isnt enough to handle all the components?

Originally, i had all 4 sticks of RAM installed, and i attempted to overclock my CPU a little. I managed to get it up to 3.8 before i noticed some minor problems. Eventually my comp would freeze under around 42-50% CPU load. I set everything back to factory spec and rebooted. still haveing the same issue.

I removed 2 stick of RAM (only running 2x1gb atm) and while running them at the factory 1600Mhz, it would still freeze, but not as frequently. Currently, only 2 sticks installed, running at 1333Mhz, and i have alot better uptime then before, but freezing still occurs. Doing so, i am able to do what would cause the freezing (almost on command) and i have watched the CPU load go as high as 100% without freezing, however it still happens randomly at this point.

Is it likely the CPU is faulty? (im guessing not if it will accept a 100% load without causing a freeze)

I should also not this is a fresh install. An error occured when i installed the new processor, and i was forced to re-install.

Based on this info, does it sound like the power supply isnt strong enough? I was thinking about getting either the Cooler Master GX 750W or the Thermaltake tr2 rx 750W modular cable PSU.

Has anyone ever had an issue with this CPU/MOBO combo?

I plan on purchasing the new PSU on this coming weekend, and would greatly appreciate input prior to this weekend.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: The specs in my system are all correct, some discrepencies in what i posted, but close enough

Raise CPU-NB voltage, or DRAM voltage to whatever is rated if not already.

I also do not recommend overclocking on that mobo especially with an aftermarket CPU cooler, until you get some MOSFET cooling installed (see links in sig for more info). Also keep it moderate, <1.45V. Never mind that, I mistook this for another 770 board; 8+2 VRM so you're fine

when is it freezing exactly? any BSOD's?

i was gonna say... with my athlon2 x2 i was overclocked from 2.9 to 3.29 and it ran fine with this cooler lol.

i have attempted to raise both the NB/CPU voltage and the CPU voltages, keeping below the recommended max (1.4000/1.5500 respectively) and my dram is at 1.9 to accomodate for the factory spec of my ram.

@ladypunk: no BSOD. will freeze, almost like glitching. if music is playing or watching a tv episode online, constant repeating of the same sound it froze on until restarted.

nope... thee comp completely freezes... restart button works, but to power down, i have to do a hard shut down, or pull the power. ctl+alt+del does nothing, no mouse movement, num lock doesnt respond etc.
