Newbie OC'er with a question or two(three actually) - Page 3

I would stay away from all Zalman coolers. Their circular design just isn't optimal for heat transfer.

The C14 is a good cooler but way overpriced. Your i3 doesn't need the most expensive heatsink to get an awesome overclock. I hit 4.0GHz on an i3 530 with only a CM GeminII S, and that's a low profile heatsink. I'd still recommend the Dark Knight because it's so affordable.

Congrats on getting your temperature fixed. Yeah, I have trouble with the stock heat sink myself as well. I can never figure out which way to turn those darn things to pop it in and pop in out - but I never bothered to figure out either. The only time I use a stock heat sink is just to test out the CPU if I bought used. After that, it gets tossed into my cabinet. Dunno if it is weird, I do like the AMD stock heat sink though and still use it on two other computers I have - no overclock. I feel it makes a good positive contact with its clip kind of design.

If you're looking at heatsinks, I'll let you know how my Thermaltake Frio treats my Q8400. I should be receiving it tomorrow afternoon.

Thread Starter
Got it up to 3.85 on the stock cooler, gonna push it a little more once I get a better one, this was sufficient just for getting familiar with asrock's bios(which sucks btw).
