need help deleting driverstore crap

Thread Starter
i made the mistake of installing "magicdisk" to load a uif file. it has come very to jacking my windows 7. i did a system restore and managed to get rid of it and by also manually deleting the leftover crap. only 2 files remain in the system32/driverstore/temp folder. i dont think they are doing anything anymore. but i would like them to be gone. as far as i can tell from researching on the net this is impossible to delete from the driverstore folder. i have tried admin account, safe mode, delete on reboot.

so these 2 files will remain there for the life of my windows7 install.

what bothers me is that windows calls this a temp folder but it never goes away

anybody know how?

Have you tried just creating a blank notepad doc and then changing the extension on it then when prompted to replace or keep both, replace the files?

You can also try using Killbox, you can get it here. Used to use this at work for virus files that would replicate and recreate after they were removed because the virus's weren't 'smart' enough to overwrite and existing file.

If you use killbox, make sure to use delete on restart, end explorer shell, and replace with dummy file.

killbox can't do it. file replace and copy not work

i'm going to yank the HDD out of the PC and put it as a slave drive on my other pc and delete the files from there.

this is ridiculous.

I would've suggested either booting off of a LiveCD of Linux and deleting from there, OR taking that hard drive out and putting it in another computer (so it's no longer the boot drive) and delete that way. I like NameUnknown's solution better.

EDIT Aww... 'd

I agree, that is insane. If you wanted to tinker with it a bit, you could try right clicking on it and trying to change the permissions, and possibly the owner.

It should work slaved, I was hoping to accomplish it for you without doing that though. Oh well, hopefully this works. If not, I guess the only thing you can do is boot to a Live environment as suggested by Razinhail and deleting it.
