overlocking advice needed

Thread Starter
hi guys,i need some advice on overclockin me system.i'm using q8300 2.5ghz(overclocked to 3.0ghz) and asrock p45twinturbo2000 motherboard.the maximum i could get was fsb 410(3.07ghz).it's 400 now.i tried to increase fsb rate futher and either my gpu goes off or system keeps restarting all the time.it seems now that i can load OS and play games but it takes 2-3 times before OS is loaded.i mean it's restarting few times before OS load screen comes up.it looks like i missed something while OCing the stuff in bios, but can't figure out what exactly went wrong.

I am going to sound like a broken record to some people on here, but it may be the power supply. Which power supply (brand and model) do you have?

I've seen it time and time again here on Overclock.net where someone has trouble overclocking up until they get a better power supply. But this doesn't mean that they got one that has a higher wattage rating, but it means that they got one that can actually handle the stress of overclocking.

Well that PSU is a decent PSU for OC'ing

Now onto the next bit, what are your BIOS settings (you are OC'ing in the BIOS aren't you? *stern look*)

Important things will be the

CPU multiplier
FSB clock
CPU voltage
NB voltage
load line calibration
RAM speed
& RAM timings

off the top of my head. Please pick me up if I missed anything

yeah,i'm Ocing in bios.
i'm currently workin, but as far as i can remember few important things:
CPU multiplier 7.5(that's max i get)
FSB clock 400(as 3.00ghz overclocked),had 333
CPU voltage 1.2500-1.270
ram speed 1620 mhz(was 1333 stock,cpu-z showed that at least)

I doubt that your ram is stable. Try lowering the ram multiplier to something closer to 1333, or raise the voltages but that is probably gonna overheat your systems.

It should be a setting in the BIOS, it will either be RAM speed or RAM multiplier, which will multiply your baseclock(fsb) to produce a speed.

Remember RAM rated speed is double the actual speed when looking at those calcs.

For the mean time anyway, I would recommend setting it below it's rated speed, that way you can eliminate it as a possible factor for instability when stability testing for the CPU and bring the multiplier back up (and timings down) once you have the CPU stable.
