A PCI Wireless Card + M IV E Question.

Thread Starter
So I'll be putting my first rig together whenever my MB gets to me (see signature for hardware details), and as it will be far enough away from my router to require a wireless networking solution, I bought one of these:http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=531. So here is my question. If I install this into one of the lower PCI slots on my Mobo, as my GPU will be in the first, will it drop the bandwidth(?) from x16 to x8-x8 since two PCI slots are being used? Will this issue only occur if I'm using two GPUs in SLI mode? I'm obviously new at building and my understanding of this part of the process is relatively low. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there is a more appropriate board to post this please let me know. Thanks.

Dont worry there will be no drop in bandwidth.

First of all PCi and PCI-E are not interconnected

So you video card will continue to operate in x16 mode.

How ever if the video card is placed inside a x8 slot it would run only slightly slower then if it were in a x16 slot. When i say slightly it mean any where from 1%-5% depending on which benchmark you read.

Dont worry you are fine.

Thanks for the advice. Just to be clear though, the interface for the card is 32-bit PCI and not PCI-E. So if I were to put the GPU in the top red PCI slot (see Picture below), would installing the wireless card into the 3rd or 4th not have any effect? I realize I'm most likely over-blowing this but I just want to be certain before I build.

your wireless card is PCI, and the maximus iv doesn't have any PCI slots... I didn't think you could put a PCI card in PCI-E slots

Yea, the card you bought won't work on your motherboard. If you don't want to use a USB card, you need a PCI-Express one, like this one. It will have no impact on your GPUs if you install it in the slot at the very bottom of the motherboard.
