First thing is the AM3+ SOCKET that is required for bulldozer. The AM3 CHIPSET will work OK (there will be minor performance loss) so long as that board has an AM3+ socket so bulldozer will physically fit in the board (AM3+ has one more pin). MSI is already doing this... releasing new revisions of old AM3 chipset boards (i.e 890FX) with a AM3+ socket slapped on.
Second, just think about this... Would it be better for AMD to catch Intel off guard with bulldozer performance and force them to scramble to improve Ivy Bridge or to tell them early that... "Yeah, we've got a faster processor than you so here's an early tip off so you can get to work on besting us".
Furthermore, what do you think will happen to AMD sales NOW
if they announe that bulldozer is way faster than Phenom II and will be here in 3 short months Edited by JCPUser - 3/9/11 at 5:33pm
