First OC ever, 955be running at 4.07 on air. =]

Hey guys,
Just wanted to post this somewhere and get some input. I was playing with my 955 last night and got it to 4.07 stable after a 7hr stress test on prime95! Max load temps were 51c, which from what I'm seeing isnt too shabby at all. I was a little curious about a few things though so maybe someone can help (oh, heres my info on the oc as well, im not sure if this is all the info you need or not)

~cpu freq - 220mhz
~cpu volt - 1.45v
~cpu/nb volt - 1.246875
~dram volt - 1.59
~multiplier - 18.5x

First thing is, I keep reading that the NB voltage should be almost the same as the cpu voltage, which mine is clearly not! I just want to make sure my numbers all look typical to some seasoned overclockers, because i might be overlooking something obvious to you guys! Also, is it normal for the memory to only run at 800ish mhz with an oc like this?? It seems like it is according to what im reading, or maybe im misunderstanding something, but it just seems wierd that we would take our 1333-2000mhz ram and underclock it to 600-800mhz, especially when trying to get max performance...

Also, Ive been trying to figure out how to properly post screens of prime95 and cpuz together, but idk how. do you have p95 still running or take the screen after you stop it? seems like if you stop it first, itll give you your times, but then cpuz doesnt show your load clock, but if you dont stop, then you dont get the time that prime95 was running in the screen. >_<

So yea, this is my first attempt at OCing, took a few hours of playing to find settings i really cared for, and here they are! Let me know if you guys have any questions/concerns, and thanks in advance for the help!! =D

nb should be around 1.2-1.25 (a little high but ok)
cpuz will show your ram speed/ch dual channel with ddr you double it

what cpu cooler are you using?
how are the temps
955 has a max of 1.55v
max temp is 62c, keep it under 55c for stability

Congrats on the OC
What motherboard is this with? Any more info?

oops, guess i should've put my build, lol

Heres what im running

CPU - 955BE
Cooler - Thermaltake Frio (2 120s)
Mobo - Asus m4a88td-V EVO/USB3
GFX - HIS 6950 (flashed with 6970)
RAM - G.skill ripjaws 2x4gb - 2000mhz
PSU - Rosewill extreme 750 (yes, i know its not a corsair, but it was rated very well, and seems to serve its purpose well. =])

Everything else is just cosmetic. =P

Also, idle temps are 27ish with high fan speed on the frio, 29-30 with low speed. normal operating temps seem to be 32-40 (thats everything from internet to playing rift on ultra). The normal usage temps arnt really that accurate, seeing as i only used the computer for a few hours... im not sure if it will go higher than 40 so who knows!

Also had the NB at 1.1, and it was a little shakey so i just bumped it up til it felt great, and then a little extra bump for kicks, so i can probably run it at like 1.3 or something and be fine. Ill deff try tonight. =]

Also, how should I go about screenshots exactly? what would be the best things to have up and should i take a pic of prime before or after I stop the stress test (see first post for my concerns over that)

Thanks guys!

PS: I still need an SSD and decent hard drive, any suggestions? I'm running a left over 2.5" drive atm and its horrible. D:
I was looking at a seagate barracuda on newegg. 1tb - 32mb cache - 7200rpm
Id like to get an ssd as well, but having a hard time spending the money... =/

Good job on the 955!

Go to your USER CP link at the top of the page, and look for the link for "Add system" on the left side, then put in your System Specs so they show up in your Sig!

So heres on update, got home from work and started trying to up the fsb to overclock the ram... didnt work out so well... the temps were going higher than i wouldve liked, so i decided to change the game plan.
I started working on lowering voltages slowly and running stress tests. I ended up with these numbers

From:
~cpu freq - 220mhz
~cpu volt - 1.45v
~cpu/nb volt - 1.246875
~dram volt - 1.59
~multiplier - 18.5x

To:
~cpu freq - 220mhz
~cpu volt - 1.375
~cpu/nb volt - 1.1
~dram volt - 1.5
~multiplier - 18.5

The temps are higher idle (i think because the heat is on and my room is like 6f warmer than it was yesterday) but lower at load, which is what i really care about. I'll try to push it even lower. Any input on this? Is there such a thing as too low of voltages as long as its stable?

Thanks!

Very nice overclock. I cant get stable past 3.8 and temps are not my issue. You have a good combo of parts.

Thanks! It took me a while and alot of research to really get the parts i wanted. I'm still a little unhappy with the ram, but there is really nothing I can find that I like (1800+ ram w/ 7 cas or lower). and thanks for the rep! =]
