Perhaps you haven't heard of the homebrew community behind WebOS... It seems nobody here has.

I've had a Palm Pre on Sprint since September of '09, and Palm has stood behind the homebrew community since WebOS's inception. I don't think the small community would tolerate such action, and I find it hard to see how HP would integrate that kind of stuff in an OS that doesn't preload software like WebOS. If they did, homebrew would eliminate it. Of course they could change it, but those that have used the operating system know its usefulness. I know HP could turn their backs on the community, but I doubt it.

Now, the integration between the phone and tablet as seen with the new TouchPad is awesome. It was mentioned with the announcement of the newer devices that they are looking to put it on netbooks and laptops. This would be another cool way of integration. While I wouldn't really need WebOS on my desktop for anything, personally, it could appeal (as previously mentioned) to the newer computer user or someone who just wants to quickly boot and load up a web page, email, or YouTube video without having all of the hassle of Windows.

I might be fanboying it up, but those of you criticizing HP on this direction need to take a step back and try out WebOS until you bash it. I haven't used much of iOS or Android to really criticize, but from what I know, they don't do multitasking like WebOS does -- and that feature is what's so great about PCs. WebOS could be an easy to use alternative...

Not sure why these big companies are pushing mobile OS's onto laptops and netbooks. Isn't ASUS doing this with Android? It's pointless because it'll half-baked.

On second thought, it's likely that they're following Apple in giving consumers a consistent interface across a line of devices. Problem for them is Android is just now optimized for tablets, good luck getting that to run properly on netbooks and laptops.
