There would be so much lag that the game would be unplayable. I suppose you could auto kick high pingers...eh..maybe 30 and higher to make it playable with that many players

just because the engine can do it doesn't make it feasible to include as a possibility

the more players you have the faster the players hardware needs to be to provide playable frame rates, as well as the faster the internet connections - both client and server - to make the game play be enjoyable.

only way 256 player servers would work is if every player had some of the fastest possible computers (4+GHz quad core or better) and really fast and low latency internet
