The engine would have to be over hauled... and that's money spent that they won't get back. If you really want mods, try CS:S or any other source game. They're a bit outdated, but fun as hell and still played by many people.

Several minutes would destroy any form of fun. It would work like this:

Spawn in on buddy who is at the/near front line
Two seconds after spawn, die because buddy is a solid object in game and you can't effectively move around bodies in close quaters and someone lobbed a grenade toward him while you were spawning in on him.
Wait 2 minutes to respawn
Repeat


I could take 20-30 second respawns, but several minutes is ridiculous. The only way it would cause maps to last hours is because no one would be actually playing the maps for periods at a time.

A minute is enough to give you time to think about dieing again.

It's not always power of 2... 24 isn't a power of 2. Neither is 32...

There are 2 teams. The total number of players has to be an even number. It can be ANY even number up to 256. There are 20/22/24/26 player servers in games if you weren't aware; they're not ALL powers of 2 in capacity. The typical server provider yes, they usually just offer 16/24/32/64
