Not to mention FPS is determined by what's in FoV. It's not like all 256 players are gonna be on your screen at once (the map and air space would be huge). At most maybe 30.
I think the issue would be server load for managing that many players.

I get lag in bad 32 man TF2 servers when I'm pushing 200fps. Most cards can handle additional players on screen locally, I would imagine.

Several problems with this.

-The maps won't be designed for that many players.
-So many players allowed at once would increase the server load quite a bit (restricting what kind of hardware can actually run the game well)
-I would also think you would have to set pretty tight ping/kick limits to keep the games playable or expect tons of lag
-SQUAD based gaming which the BF series is renowned for does not work well with large numbers like that

I play a BF2 co-op server that promotes teamplay and squading up. They have also set the amount of players to less than average for the maps. Generally for the small maps you will have 16 vs 16, they limit these to 8 humans vs x amount of bots. You nearly have to work together to get anything done with so few people.

Also there are some single player mods for BF2 that let you scale the bot count up to 200+ It's pure chaos, although kind of fun to mess around with. To accommodate that many or even something like 120 players would take some very large maps to be playable and fun.

I'm wondering how will they pull this off, this will level up the minimum requirements to play this game. If this is the case we have a problem,not enough people will have the power to run it.

If they mantain the same minimum requirements with a improved Frostibite 2 engine, friendly to most PC's, this will be huge.

Interesting but for a 256 player match...you would need a huge map to make it entertaining.

256 Players on a map like Wake Island would be rather hectic, fun for some I am sure, but not for all.
