Will I see a significant benefit by lapping? At least 5 degree of temperature decrease? Also, how much time on average you spend with each grit of sand paper (assuming 400, 600, 1000)?

I honestly love this cooler, but I think I'm gonna move on to another one soon, it just looks... A bit to bland compared to other flaming red (literally) coolers on the market.

I doubt you will see 5c difference since a water cooler is already going to cool well, plus you are probably starting off with a block with a good surface already. If you had an air cooler that just had a poor surface, then maybe 5c.

Totally depends on your particular cpu, it's always worth trying!
E: also, I always do mine like this -> 600 until its full copper and flat, then the highest grit you got.
This E5200 took about 45 minutes...
Also, keep it wet, use electric tape on the back so you can hold the back...

Not getting the temps you want? Lap that baby, it's exciting and as stated before it can't make it any worse.

Well, I kind of ruined the shiny finish of my water block by taking a steel wool to it (dumb ass). I am going back and forth about bringing it back up to shiny finish. And I am thinking if I do that, I rather lap the CPU as well. Bought it used off of ebay - I doubt I got any warranty on it.

yeah, remember it's not the shiny that you want, it's the flat.
