You say this and I believe that you believe it, but like I said I had my 5870 with 10.6 - 11.2 and never, not once had a single issue. I updated every single month when the new ones came out and I always had the best performance and no bugs in all my games. I will continue to always update my drivers.

I will, however, admit that if I had my 5870 upon launch I would have stuck with some of the older drivers as I hear 10.1 -10.4 were horrible.

Although I will stick to what I have to say. Keep updated, stay classy and keep clear of outdated drivers and software if you respect yourself and the people around you.

Staying on old drivers is cool 'n all, but if web builders are reluctant to improve their sites because they have to take into account people who REFUSE to update, you are hindering MY internet experience and i no like u no more. Don't even get me started on IE6/7

I am only being semi-serious here people.

Why dont you hate on windows for not providing an automated driver update program?

(I <3 Linux)

But this is interesting. I personally would love GPU acceleration to be mainstream, as long as it still worked for people with intel integrated...

What kind of example are you setting for the children? Do you have no shame man!
Pfffft. I was updating my brother's machine while he was out of town this Xmas...I discovered he was still running Catalyst 8.4

What's wrong with using old drivers? I've been on 10.12a for as long as I can remember. I've personally had lots of issues with 11.x drivers, so I'm not updating. I noticed 11.2 has specific updates for 5850s for DA2, so I might update. But as I said before, I'm not sure.

I am still using Nvidia drivers 258.96, which came out in July last year. Explained below.

Agreed.

I am disgusted by the people who go to places like the Geek Squad or Microcenter to have there PC cleaned up from viruses or because it hasn't had the temp files cleaned in 5 years and they don't know how to do it.....those are the people who deserve to be ripped off when it happens and the same people who will be crying foul in 2-4 yrs when GPU acceleration is mainstream and they are still running windows XP service pack 2 or 3 and nobody is supporting them anymore.

You are joking, right ? Why the rant and over-generalization ?

And besides, some people need to use a PC for work, that does not mean they have to learn how everything works. There are stores that charge a fee for solving those problems. So what ? You don't need those services, good for you, but some employ their time in a different manner and are not computer savvy. There is an industry for that. It's just another business.

Anyway, like the moderator said, there are many valid reasons to stick with a specific driver version.

I, for example, have the 258.96 drivers from July of last year installed on my system. Why ? Because I have my monitor connected through a Dsub adapter, and for some reason, that is the only driver version than can display non-native resolutions (1680x1050) correctly; all other resolutions are displayed on the middle of the screen, in a shrinked version, and the monitor reports it's being fed 1680x1050.

And at least one of the newer driver versions caused rendering problems with GTA IV : EFLC, and this one doesn't.

That is why I'm still using 258.96. And yes, I have tried ALL more recent drivers. And yes, I have performed clean installations, and tried creating custom resolutions, etc, blah, blah, blah.

You two guys who go on insulting people using older drivers forget that not only new features and optimizations are included in newer releases but also new problems and bugs.

Must admit, I used to run with up-to-date drivers, Untill today. When my PC suddenly started comming down with the ATI/AMD "Stuck on 99% load bug" and I couldn't for the life of me fix it.

I rolled back to 10.10e CCC Drivers. Up untill then, however, I was fine running 11.2 but sadly, for some unknown reason, overnight they just wouldn't work.

I know I'm still new to the forums but there are reasons why people run with what they do and they seem to outweigh the people that run old stuff just because they can.

I usually update my GPU drivers when a new one is available, but I think I've missed the last couple of updates...

To be honest, unless there are performance improvements across the board I don't see the rush, as long as mine are stable at the moment.

And in regard to the article, I doubt it's people with high end GPUs running drivers that are maybe a year old that are causing the problems, more likely the people with integrated graphics or older GPUs with very outdated drivers that are causing the issues?

Chances are I get much higher framerates in new games than you do, and we have exactly the same card.

Not a problem if anything above 30fps is fine for you, but I guess it bugs me when I see a number other than 60 shown by fraps in the corner.

Seriously though, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't want to update your drivers and take advantage of the new CCC, performance, etc. It takes 3 minutes at the most.
