Question about P8P67 Pro surround sound

Thread Starter
It comes with Realtek HD audio, and I got hold of a Logitek X-540 analogue 5.1 surround system. Now 2 things worth noting.

In the Realtek HD Audio manager, when I run the test, the center and subwoofer test signals both come through both of those speakers, so sound identical. I read around and people seem to say its a problem with the speakers - they are supposedly a mixed channel...but then why can I turn one of them off and leave the other on in the manager??? That is kinda weird if you ask me...

Secondly, and more importantly, when I play games, the FL, FR, RL and RR speakers seem to work in surround, but the center speaker doesn't care which way I face and always provides the same volume. So if someone is talking behind me, the front side speakers go quiet, the rear speakers play his voice, but the center speaker plays his voice as loudly as if I were facing him. This obviously ruins the whole effect. I can't seem to fix this! Turning off the center speaker doesn't help as the side speakers don't compensate for it soooo...

It happened with the drivers that came with the mobo, and it also happens with the most up to date drivers. I am using windows 7 64bit. Any ideas?

Playing in quadraphonic for now...sadly.

Thanks everyone

What do you have the speakers set to in windows? 5.1?
Do you also have the audio set to 5.1 in the game?

They are set to 5.1, the game is set to 5.1. It's either a driver problem, a problem wit the actual speakers or a win7 problem

Also, make sure that your audio settings are configured as that can make a big difference. You can do this in the Realtek settings if I remember correctly.

Nope no other set to test with. I have spent hours going through the settings and making sure everything is perfect and nada.

This is really baffling, especially seeing as there is so little information about correct setup, guides, or anyone having the same problem...

I just thought maybe there is something specific about this board, or perhaps its the drivers or bios or even the speakers themselves. Or perhaps its win7 (wouldn't be suprised).

Well I've got Z5500's and I just ordered the P8P67 Pro, so when my stuff gets here I'll let you know if I have the same issue or what. At least that way you can determine whether it's a motheboard or speaker (possibly driver) issue.

You could try booting to a live disc (knoppix, ubuntu, etc) and see if the sound outputs normally. Although you couldn't test games, you could certainly test the sound stuff and see if all the outputs are functioning properly.

I have this same issue and no matter what it wont work. I have front and rear surround with a Sub no center speaker.... It won't even play stereo. I just resorted to plug my speakers in the front Audio panel and it works.. I also use headphones for gaming..

Hopefully its the MB issue with is going to be replaced by Newegg soon since I have a i7-2000k..
