950 OC question

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm OCing my 950 for the first (technically second, I suppose) time and was wondering how this looks. I'm currently at 3.8GHz at 1.2V with temps of 78-71-72-75 during 100% load using Prime95 (on air - Hyper 212+).

Are these temps safe? Can I do a a lengthy run on Prime95 and not have my hardware take any damage or anything? I've read that up to 85 deg C is safe but I just wanted to know if 78 for a prolonged period of time could do any harm.

EDIT: Also, should I consider bumping it up to an even 4GHz?
EDIT #2: When I made this post I was at 181x21 but I wanted to go for 4 so I tried 174x23 but when I started Prime95 my temps would get to ~78 and CoreTemp would should some error and exit. Any idea why?

It was failing prime at 4ghz because you did not increase cpu voltage. With those temps I would recommend staying at 3.8 with 1.2v until you can improve your cpu cooling. your stable 3.8ghz is a good overclock with good volts and ok temps.
