As for being able to give advice on headphones, we do need to know what you plan to use them for. Will you be listening to classical or hard rock, only watching movies, etc.

Mostly music. A wide range, from House to Melodeath. I might watch or play the occasional game, but that isn't a determining factor.

Agreed. The AKG's are definitely more fit towards Orchestra/Classical music listening. I still love em when listing to heavy bands, but you definitely get more out of the headphones when listening to genre's such as classical.

Myself, for listening to heavy metal and classical my ears love nothing more than to be surrounded by Grado goodness.

I would look into the SR225's or SR325i's if you can find them on sale.

On a side note, my friend has a set of Sennheisers that I've been very impressed with overall. Make sure you know what you want open or closed. If you choose open Grado has anything you could dream of, if closed, I'd look into Senn's.

Difference being?
I'll assume it's if the headphones are 'open' in the sense that they don't completely isolate your ears, and 'closed' do/are?

Mind getting some links for those Grado's? I'm lazy.

Here is Google Shopping

I'm not sure where else to get 'em.

Here ya go:

The closed nature of such models means that certain frequencies can resonate more than others, resulting in unwanted distortion or poor sound fidelity. Yet, heir isolating qualities make them a good choice for those listening in noisier environments, or looking for a completely immersive experience free of outside noise or distraction.

vs..

Open headphones, on the other hand, do not cover the entire ear, and allow for background noise to seep in. However, that's not necessarily a bad thing. That extra air flow is said to reduce the resonance present in closed-model headphones, resulting in a more natural listening experience, and increased audio fidelity. Also, according to Plantronics, a popular headset manufacturer, many find the added airflow to be more comfortable than the "box-like" experience of closed models.

It all really comes down to where you'll be mostly using them, and for what purposes. Open ear headphones like I said, are great for getting out the perfect sound quality, and can also be helpful if you ever plan on Lanning it up w/ some buddies. Closed heaphones are more for the people who just want to isolate the rest of the world so that they can listen to their music w/o any distractions, even though closed headphones may cause distortion. And yeah, GRADO and SENNHEISER are two other brands you should shoot for. I plan on going for the Sennheiser 595's if my AKG's ever sell.

Sennheiser earphones are also quite spectacular. I use them currently, and I LOVE the bass and clear sound. Sounds amazing when listening to my Dubstep....lol
