[EXP] NVIDIA Confirms GTX590 on March 22nd - Page 15

i am very interested in seeing how this card compares to a 6990. so far, i'm very pleased with the 6990. yes, it does get a little loud, but only when you have the fan speed manually set to higher levels. for gaming, it really doesn't get that loud. also, i wear headphones when i game and i never noticed excess noise (i compared noise levels with them on and off).

i have always been a huge fan of nvidia's products. my biggest concern is seeing what they charge for the 590.
I wonder if crysis 2 will be bundled with the GTX590
post #143 of 179
Why don't they throw the memory chips on the back of the PCB and let a nice looking backplate cool them?

... silly Nvidia!

This won't perform as well as SLI 580s. If the TDP of this is 375W (which it probably won't be as nvidia has a habit of lying and understating it) then the TDP is only 1.53x a 580 (244W). That just implies they have downclocked the cores massively.

Not necessarily "a lot". There are alot of components on the board that are shared. A 5970 OC'ed to stock 5870 speeds doesn't consume 2x the power of a 5870

Well, the source from remer a few posts above shows a 170mhz downlock, that is certainly a lot. The clocks are below a 560. I would be surprised if this outperformed SLI 570s. Time will tell.

Weren't the GTX590 cores binned very very very properly so they run on ultra low volts?

Somehow I don't believe two darn GTX580 only sinking 375W you know

I very much doubt it. nVidia have never made tri-SLI with 2 cards viable. On paper it's perfectly doable, but the drivers won't allow it.

Aye. Just like the HD6990, the GTX590 is designed to be brought back up to standard clocks, and even pushed beyond them. Basically, it's been deliberately over-engineered for its default configuration.

My only gripe (bearing in mind that I'll never own one... ) is that for the kind of people that will use this card, 1.5GB per GPU isn't enough. I reckon 2560x1600x3 is enough to leave this card memory-starved in some games.

Of course, if it runs out of GPU cycles first, that won't matter, but the chances are that it'll run out of memory first. Speculation obviously, but I think nVidia dropped the ball there - setups like the one above will prove nVidia wrong (or right).
