8gb of 1333 or 1600?

Thread Starter
will there be a huge difference? im looking at 2 sets of ram, one is 8gb 1333 CL 7-7-7-21, the other is 1600 CL 9-9-9-24. both are within 10$ of eachother. i know verry litte to nothing about ram or ram timeing, but from what i understand, the lower numbers the better. so which of the 2 sets would be better?

get the 1600 if they're within $10 of each other.

i've done some tests here, and i realize that 1333 low cas, is better than 1600 cl9, similar to this case.
So get the 1333.
maxxmem2 can prove it.

get the 1600 and tighten the timings
in real life performance you won't even notice the difference between the two, Heck I can't even notice the difference between my DDR2 800mhz ram and my DDR3 1333mhz ram, in benchmark yeah there is a tiny bit of difference_ but real life performance isn't affected greatly.

I say go with the 1333mhz at CL7 which will perform just about as good as the 1600mhz at CL9 or perhaps even a bit better(Google is your friend, I googled this up a while back while doing my ram buying research and found out the 1333mhz with CL7 actually performs better according to the info I found)

Heck, bump the voltage up and you might be able to get CL6 on those 1333mhz ram_

I'm still a bit new to DDR3 but I got my cheap DDR2 667mhz Kingston value ram to run at 6-6-6-18-24 1000mhz with 2.2volts which I thought was amazing lol, hell I'm surprise they aren't dead yet or burnt up considering they've been at this speed and voltage for 2 years now_

personly would get the 1333 because tighter timings have more RL impact then mhz

This is what ive seen.
Tight Timings are better than speed most of the time.
Speed seems to make Overclocking a little easier once you reach 3.8GHZ and above, but in actual performance there is next to no difference.

This right here. There have been benchmarks showing that RAM speed impacts real world performance little or none at all.

1600Mhz CL9 kits usually overclock better and reach the same tight timings at 1333. They perform about the same though.
