Nope haven't done that yet. I got the For Dummies book on the camera really cheap because the store was going out of business, so hopefully that will help along with practicing.
Yep, you probably should. Using auto AF means your camera focuses on where it wants to, not where you want it to. This usually leads to images that are OOF or focused improperly or on the wrong subject.

You can look at the EXIF data in the photo to see what the settings used were. What software are you using to manage your photos? (Lightroom, Picasa, etc)

And you won't be able to drop it lower than 100, it might just be compression artifacts that I'm seeing in the images you've posted here, if the originals look okay then that's fine (but you might want to try a higher quality compression when you're going to upload). Which reminds me, are you shooting in RAW then compressing to JPEG or similar?

Yeah, I'm using ViewNX that came with it. I'm converting from raw to jpeg, but I'm using the big thumbnail option on imgur to shrink the image, so that might be causing somethings to.
