[io9]We’re one step closer to cheap, abundant biofuel - Page 3

This idea was in another thread from a few months ago. I just want to hear more progress has been made. Then again like someone else said:

We get rid of the oil companies, will these biofuel companies be just as nice?

Bio-fuels are flawed.
They will cause middle-eastern farmers to grow biofuel as opposed to food crops due to the bigger profit margin which will increase food prices...

Every 12 seconds, an urban planner kills himself because of how stupid and ugly suburbs are. Cars and roads and the way cities are design is also a proof that people don't understand basic economic principles like opportunity cost, because these things are excessively expensive, and to have that there's a bunch of more awesome stuff we can't have.

So, this fuel thing is irrelevent to me, because I exist only to live in a big arcology powered by concentrated solar power plants.
Solar has MASSIVE technological problems ranging from crappy collection efficiency to losses during storage. Plus, the raw materials for constructing the solar arrays are expensive, and the process for constructing them also expensive. Unless some revolutionary method is discovered to make solar more viable, it's almost as much of a fad energy source as biofuels.

Nuclear is where it's at. Not that it's necessarily a long-term sustainable source since fissionable fuels are also a limited resource, but it can be done on large scales for relatively cheap.

I do however want an alternative to come out soon, so that we can rid gas companies of the grip and control they have on society. I want bio-diesel! I want it now!!! I actually want more nuclear power first, but this is good too.

Not everyone likes living in a massive, artifical establishments.

I liked living in the suburbs, and I like living in the country too.

Fearmongering gets to you pretty easily, eh? You're aware that basically none of the issues that caused the accident with those reactors exist in modern reactors?

I'd rather go for synthetic fuel. There was article a few months ago about synthetic fuel 10 years in the works, that leaves little to no emissions. That sounds far better than having biofuel everywhere.
