Page file questions

Thread Starter
For my OS, I have 8gb of ram installed (4 sticks). I use a set of 640 Black WD drives. (no raid or any kind of configuration, all installed programs/os are on the main drive. Second drive is loaded with media (music, videos) for playback)

Now, there are some hotly debated issues about the page file. I'm going to ask them again here.

1. Is it actually beneficial to put it on the HDD that your programs and OS are not on?

2. Is defragging the disk and setting a "fixed" page file beneficial?

3. There are opinions against the above two methods, and say just leave it under windows' control.

Thanks

Considering you have 8GB RAM, I would assume page file is rarely needed for you. I would set 1GB page file manually then leave it.

Also on the first question - it may be, I guess your main HDD already has lot's of reads/writes from running programs, so reads/writes from page file would only reduce performance. Putting page file onto a more idle drive could possibly be better - however I think the difference would be so small that it wouldn't really matter in the end.
