Sell Sig Rig for a Nice Laptop? - Page 2

My M11x broke from a pinmod... I know, dumb idea. I don't know if I can RMA it, I cleaned up the PLL but you can still see a missing pin.

I woud buy an M15x or a G53 as a gaming hybrid, so I could still game if I wanted to, but it wouldn't be my main focus.

Ok, so my M11x is being sent to be fixed. It is out of warranty and will cost $400 (Mastercard will pay that as I get a 1 year warranty from them too). My question is, if they notice that there is a pin mod, will they still replace the motherboard? It's not in warranty anyway so will they care? Also, will I get another SU7300 motherboard, or the Pentium one?

Most probably not, you're paying for repairs, its like sending it in to be repaired, Thats why mods void the warranty, cause they're paying for the repairs you caused if you use the warranty.

They'll fix it, you're just going to pay for it. They will most likely tell the credit card company that you messed it up, so they probably won't cover it either.

As for selling your current system for a laptop... That's going to be a huge regret. If you want to game on a laptop though, go for it.

Personally when I did the same thing I sold the laptop after a few months. They are just so crappy in comparison to a desktop. Unless you're one of those people bothered for no real reason by having something somewhat big just sitting there , I wouldn't do it.

I was going to sell it if I couldn't get my M11X fixed. So now I will definitely keep it.

Might i ask what "pin mod" you did and what were you suppose to gain by doing it? I'm just curious.... M11x is a pretty nice laptop....

Yea, if you cut the 14th pin on the PLL, you can overclock the CPU (I think it's C2Duos only) (I had the SU7300). The PLL is insanely small though, and each pin is about half a millimeter wide.

Those laptops would be great. I owned the majority of nice gaming laptops over the last couple of years. My problem is I have tons a data on multiple 1TB drives and having to switch drives constantly to keep using e-sata became a huge pain in the ass. At the end of the day my laptop was always left at my place while I went to class anyway.

What I would recommend is keep your desktop configured how you like it ( I have no high end graphics because I play consoles now) and invest in a good smartphone. I have the iphone 4 and I haven't regret not having a laptop since I switched back to desktops. Unless you take notes on your laptop in class there is no need having one and I do paper notes in anyway

Taking notes is basically the sole reason I have my laptop, and I can't use my phone, as it's in class...

I could buy an iPad, but I'd much rather have my M11x.
