Rift vs. DCU....Need opinions

Thread Starter
I realize that the two are completely different games, but I just was wanting a general opinion on what people think that own either game, especially if anyone owns both.

I've only really ever played wow....2000 arena rank, tried raiding, and I'm just really over the game in general. The next MMO I'm waiting for is GW2, but who knows how long until I get to sink my teeth into that. Which brings me to these two games. Rifts graphics look good, and the world pve rifts are a definite plus, I just worry that it will be too much like wow. DCU, I've heard good and bad, I just wanted some opinions of people that have it. Is there a lot to do? Is it pretty active right now?

Thanks for any advice

Can't comment on DCU, but I played in the Rift beta and was fairly underwhelmed.
Maybe it was just the beata, but anytime I got near a Rift pve instance, my frames dropped through the floor. The game was also almost EXACTLY like WoW in most respects, except for the lack of polish.
Maybe things have changed since then though.
I am waiting for The Secret World, whenever that comes out.

Rift borrows some of the good things from wow. I like the game , played wow for almost 6 years. I went into the Rift beta thinking it would suck. I really do enjoy the game and the classes are well balanced. The soul system is awsome. They also give you a discount on the subscription if you sign up during the first few months.

I was in the same boat as you, waiting on GW2.

Agree with this guy on most points with the exception of class balance. That is absolutely incorrect. let me break it down for you.

If you're going to PvP play as warrior with Champion as your main soul. Incredible DPS and almost unlimited stuns and snares. Don't take my word for it check out the class forums. Everyone knows they are entirely op. Outside of that just pick Rogue and chose Sapper as your main soul. Either one of those two and you'll never worry about losing to anyone 1 on 1, it simply won't happen unless you suck. Juding as how you got up to 2000 in arena you obviously don't suck.

If PvE is more your thing there is a rift blade/reaver/warlord spec that by the time you hit level 36 you can tank, top dps charts, and heal yourself all at once. Never drop below 50% health if your half way decent. Note, that is with OUT a healer in the group.

Now I'm not bashing the game, I'm having a blast with it. It's so close to WoW yet completely different scenery and all. Nice mmo to play while burnt out on WoW. I only made this post b/c the fact that someone things the classes are balanced is flat out laughable.

Thanks for the info. With the way that Crysis 2 is looking, I may end up picking this up after all for something to do until GW2.

I went to a buddys last night and watched him play DCU.....definitely not the game for me.

Thanks again for all the feedback. BTW: I assume this game has realms like other MMOs, what realm are you all on?

I'm on Keenblade. Chose that b/c it was were the overclock.net guild was. Honestly though that guild seems pretty dead, so I don't know how long I'll stay there lol.

RIFT, like most MMO's borrows from many games. In this case, it combines a lot of annoying things about MMO's and fixes them. For example no focusing one to spec a certain way like WoW. It offers upto 9 different specs for each class. It fixes pet hates like no AoE looting, being able to have a world map up while travelling (it fades enough to see where your going and where you want to go on the map).

I played WoW for over 5 years and while its the same as WoW in the quest, dungeon style etc, thats more the MMO genre not WoW. It has totally different lore, world events, PvP style and new lands to explore. Rediscovering Azeroth in Cata was awesome for about 5 minutes...then you realise its the same**** you've seen for the previous 5 years minus a crack here and a river there.

If you go into RIFT looking for a WoW replacement, you won't last. If you go in looking for something different, fresh and new, you'll find yourself wastings hours away.

I don't have any experience with rift but do yourself a favor and avoid DCO at all costs. I'm glad it was gifted to me. If I had actually payed $60 for it I would have been pissed.

Get DCUO. Rift gets boring after about 240+ hours or so.
